School tours and Irish music workshops.
The Irish House Party was set up in 2007 and it has become one of Irelands best loved Irish music shows. The show was recently featured on The Late Late Show. Declan Quinn and Gerry Nolan whose company Q&N Productions produce the show also have a strong background in education both being qualified school teachers.
The Irish House Party Music Educational Workshop is an interactive and fun Irish music workshop for school children catered towards the National Curriculum's Arts education curriciulum and music syllabus. Aswell has travelling to schools we also offer the workshop at our venue in Dublin City during the daytime. This is a great idea to incorporate into a school tour. A lunch can also be provided for the children. Getting involved is what it is all about and the children are given the opportunity to get up close and even play the instruments.
The children will leave the workshop having learnt about
- Each individual instrument and its attributes
- Musicial terms and time signatures
- Rhythmic clapping
- Dynamics
- Elements of the Irish language will be integrated into the lesson.
Every performance is adapted specifically for the learning needs of each group of children. The Irish House Party Educational Workshop is comprised of four performers.
- Uilleann Piper/Bodhran
- Accordion/Dancer
- Guitar/Singer
- Flute/TinWhistle

Listening and Responding
In line with the listening and responding strand, the children will have the opportunity to explore sounds and experiment with different sounds as they watch us a follow our lead
Performing
Under the performing strand the children will each have the opportunity to play the bodhran and the tinwhilstle and will play along to simple rhythms or songs. Elements of the Irish language will be integrated into each lesson.
Composing
There will be opportunities for the children to compose, where half the group perform one type of beat and the other half a different type and the beats are then merged.
Musicial Concepts
Pulse, duration, pitch and tempo will all be explored
